There wasn’t much excitement in the 0-0 draw between Spurs and Everton in the Premier League on the 12th of September 2026. It was a game of few chances, little drama and no real controversy. However, for Everton’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, it will have been a memorable day, as the England stopper joined an elite group of goalkeepers to have registered 100 clean sheets in the Premier League.
Sadly, we are old enough to remember the grainy days before the Premier League. However, like many stats and records, in this instance we are only referring to the modern era of the game, from the 1992/93 campaign (apologies to another Everton legend, Neville Southall, who kept almost 200 top-flight clean sheets for the Toffees!).
Additionally, note that in order to be credited with a clean sheet, goalkeepers must have played the entire match.

Pickford has established himself as the undisputed number one for England for almost a decade now. He has 91 caps for the Three Lions and boasts 47 clean sheets for his country. That tally puts him four clear of Joe Hart, though still 19 shy of Peter Shilton’s record of 66 shutouts for England (from 125 games).
The former Sunderland man will turn 33 in March 2027, so he has his work cut out to surpass Shilton. It could well be argued that international clean sheets were easier to come by in days gone by, when nations beyond the elite were far less competitive. No matter what though, Pickford has been superb for England and time and again has proven his many doubters wrong.
He has been just as good, if not better, for Everton. Toffees legend Seamus Coleman recently said that he feels the Blues would have been relegated in recent years if not for Pickford and, given his remarkable consistency and the character he brings as well, that may well be true.
Pickford’s recent shutout against Spurs was one of his more comfortable clean sheets. He faced just two shots on target with a combined xGOT of just 0.25. Even so, that 100th Premier League clean sheet made him the 19th goalkeeper to reach the impressive landmark. That only 18 other goalies have made it to triple figures in well over 30 years of football shows just how hard it is, and it is a testament to Pickford’s excellence, consistency and longevity.
All 19 Members of the Club
Below you can see the full list of goalies to have, like Everton’s Pickford, kept 100 or more Premier League clean sheets.
- Petr Cech – 202
- David James – 169
- Mark Schwarzer – 151
- David de Gea – 147
- David Seaman – 140
- Nigel Martyn – 137
- Pep Reina – 136
- Brad Friedel – 132
- Tim Howard – 132
- Edwin van der Sar – 132
- Peter Schmeichel – 128
- Joe Hart – 127
- Hugo Lloris – 127
- Ederson – 122
- Shay Given – 113
- Jussi Jaaskelainen – 108
- Thomas Sorensen – 107
- Alisson – 104
- Jordan Pickford – 100
Manchester United’s Peter Schmeichel was the first stopper to keep 100 clean sheets in the Premier League. However, Chelsea legend Petr Cech, who also added to his Premier League clean-sheet tally during four seasons with Arsenal, is some way clear at the top of the pile. Pickford will not be able to move past the Czech ace barring something incredible. Cech was the fastest to 100 too, while also boasting the best shutout percentage and the record for the most clean sheets in a season, a staggering 24.
Cech made it to 100 after just 180 games – for reference, Pickford has played 366 times in the Premier League for Sunderland and Everton. David Raya, who has 71 clean sheets, has already played 173 in the division, so while he may join the list with one of the best shutout ratios, he has no chance of getting the better of Cech.
How High Might Pickford Rise?

Everton and England’s number one should have several seasons more in the Premier League. The only other person in the 100 club to still be playing in the English top flight is Liverpool’s Alisson. He is around 18 months older than his cross-city rival, so in time the Toffee should rise above the Red.
Pickford is contracted to Everton until July 2029, at which point he would be 35. He could perhaps play in the Premier League for another season or two, so might have almost five seasons left in him. That said, he could continue considerably longer, but based on five more campaigns, we feel he could yet add another 50 clean sheets (he has averaged 12 per season over the past three completed campaigns). Reaching second on the all-time list may be beyond him, but third looks like an excellent target!
Overall Premier League Clean-Sheet Record

Two players (outfield) have been a part of more clean sheets than Cech, and both were part of the same incredibly strong Chelsea side that was so good at the back. Leading the way is Frank Lampard, with 217, while his England teammate John Terry is next with 214.
The Chelsea trio are the only players to have played a part in more than 200 Premier League clean sheets, with Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand next, on 195 and 189 respectively. It seems unlikely that anyone will pass any of these Premier League legends anytime soon, but records are there to be broken and they will surely fall at some point.
